At last! We have
completed our latest project. The extensive expansion of Lansen Nursery
Ltd.
Work started in January 2003 with the building of a new production
area where we know have our potting machines installed with the robot
transplanters. This has enabled us to separate the Production and Marketing
area, creating more space so we can keep higher stock levels and space to put
in extra work lines for the marketing and despatch of our customer's
orders.
Our unique 'ebb-flood' system has once again
been the largest part of our expansion, and since the original project in 2000
there have been modifications.
The flood beds now incorporate a gutter system
running the entire length of them so the water fills the beds faster and this
allows a smoother flow of water giving more even irrigation, and empties
quicker which helps drain away any surplus water after heavy
rain.
We have introduced a new filtering system that will filter out
peat, weed seed and any other material in the water. Running alongside the new
growing beds we have more of our specially designed trains which are operated
by electric cars. Unlike the original system these will operate in a one-way
system allowing greater efficiency of plant transportation.

On our new specially designed aluminium rolling tables we can
now handle all pot sizes used on the nursery. The tables are used in both the
production process and the collection of orders. They are moved along the rails
by hand along the growing areas and orders collected are then pushed to the far
end of the beds. The tables are then collected and brought back to the new
marketing area for processing, so completing the circle. The orders are then
processed and packed for depatch.
Finally we have installed 5,000 square metres of
glass complete wityh 'ebb-flood' beds and internal transport system to cater
for year round demand.
